OBITUARY: Delaware’s summer funeral farewell

So long, summer of 2016. We hardly knew you.

A short three months of heat, humidity and all the Grotto’s pizza and Dolle’s ice cream we could eat. We’ll miss your hot sandy beaches and cool ocean water. Despite heavy backups on Rt. 1, and those air conditioning-fueled electric bills, you were our best hope to escape the office monotony and those classroom blues.

You nearly left us one weekend early, but thankfully, the forecasters were wrong. Hermine shimmied her way further west and north, letting us enjoy one last weekend in your warm embrace. While the warm temperatures remain in the coming week, we’ll remember fondly the rides we took on both the ocean waves and the amusements at Funland.

The summer of 2016 was officially laid to rest with the 31st annual Jazz Funeral along the boardwalk in Bethany Beach. Hundreds of mourners gathered to say their farewells, as musicians led the procession.
