Delaware women go dancing in Arkansas

The Blue Hen women’s basketball team will start their NCAA tournament run this Sunday in Arkansas against Arkansas-Little Rock.

The Hens are a number three seed in the women’s bracket which was announced Monday night.  The Hens coaching staff is planning a cramming session between now and Sunday as they are unfamiliar with the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.

“It’s one game at a time for us, but we do need to see the tape and see what they have to offer because we haven’t seen them play at all,” said Hens head coach Tina Martin.  “We’re a very confident bunch and very excited to be in the NCAA Tournament. At this point, we’re just thankful and anxious.”

This year marks the third trip to the big dance for the Blue Hen women.  The team made previous tournaments in 2001 and 2007.  Expectations are high and the team’s No. 3 seed reflects a stellar regular season.  The Hens finished with a 30-1 record and were crowned the Colonial Athletic Association champions.

Their first round game tips off at 5 p.m. Sunday and is scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN 2.  If the Hens win, they would face the winner of the No. 6 Nebraska and No. 11 Kansas match-up.
