Delaware unemployment rate drops in October

Delaware’s jobless rate for October dropped to 7.9%.  That’s down a half percent from this time last year.

The 33,700 people out of work represents a 0.2% drop from September’s rate of 8.1%.  There are 1,700 more people working in Delaware today than in October of 2010.

The highest numbers were seen in New Castle County.  Delaware’s largest cities reported the largest number of jobless.  Wilmington’s rate was 11.4%, while Dover had an 8.4% rate.  Both numbers were down from last year.  Wilmington’s dropped a full percent.  Dover was down 2 percentage points.

The national rate is 9% for October.  Delaware’s numbers are always computed two weeks after the national numbers are released.
