Delaware unemployment rate ticks up

Delaware’s unemployment rate for the first month of 2013 was up one-tenth of a percent to 7.2%.

The state Department of Labor reports that 32,000 Delawareans were out of work. The increase continues the trend of more unemployed workers in the state. Revised numbers showed the unemployment rate at 7.1% in December, that was an increase from November 2012, when the unemployment rate was at 6.7%.

2012 saw a fairly steady drop in the unemployment rate in the First State, except for a slight uptick over the summer. One year ago, the Department of Labor reported the state’s unemployment rate at 7%, which translates to 31,400 workers collecting unemployment benefits.

Nationally, the unemployment rate for the country is down to 7.7%, the lowest it’s been since December 2008.
