Delaware Teacher of the Year to be named tonight

Twenty teachers are in the running to become Delaware Teacher of the Year for 2012.

The winner will be announced tonight by Governor Jack Markell during the annual awards dinner in Dover.  The candidates were nominated by their districts or charter schools during the 2011 calendar year, based on “their superior ability to inspire students with a love of learning, exemplary demonstration of professional traits, and strong sense of dedication and devotion to teaching.”  Delaware’s 19 school districts and network of charter schools include nearly 9,000 teachers.  The honor of Delaware teacher of the year comes with a $5,000 grant to be used for the benefit of his or her students and a personal grant of $3,000.  All nominees also receive a $2,000 grant.  CLICK HERE to find out more about this year’s nominees.
