State Rep. Bryon Short has announced his bid for Delaware’s lone U.S. House of Representatives seat in 2016.

Multiple news outlets report that Short, a Democrat representing parts of North Wilmington, made the announcement Thursday. Short says he will work to get the middle class thriving again.

Short names the economy and education as policy areas he will focus on. He points to his experience as a small business owner and as a father of two school-aged girls as giving him a unique perspective on those issues, respectively.

Instead of holding news conferences to make his announcement, Short is visiting businesses and talking with students in each of Delaware’s three counties.

Short will run against state Sen. Bryan Townsend, also a Democrat, who announced his bid for Congress last week.
