Delaware school kids hospitalized after bus crash

Fourteen students were taken to Christiana Hospital after their bus was rear-ended in front of Wilbur Elementary School in Bear, Delaware.

The incident happened around 8:20 Thursday morning. The bus was hit from behind by a Kia Soul driven by 23-year-old Madison Brooks of Newark. Brooks was not injured, but 14 students and the bus driver were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. All of the children and the bus driver have been treated and released.

Brooks was issued a traffic summons for inattentive driving and failing to have insurance identification in her possession.

A total of 45 students were on the bus at the time of the accident, according to a statement issued by the Colonial School District. The uninjured children were escorted into Wilbur Elementary while some of their classmates were taken to the hospital. The district statement says all parents of students on the bus were notified of the incident by phone.
