Delaware needs volunteers for acorn collection

    The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is diving right into fall. The department is in need of volunteers to help with acorn collection.

    But you don’t get to keep the acorns, so don’t get any ideas. Volunteers will grab the acorns from spots where they won’t have a chance to grow and help scatter them in reforestation areas.

    The acorns that come to rest along trail edges, open spaces and roadsides — aside from tripping you up when you walk — don’t provide growth opportunity for seedlings.

    Collections will take place Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to noon at the following locations:
