Delaware National Country Club will close at end of year

Delaware National Country Club, formerly Hercules Country Club, will close at the end of 2010.

An owner of the club, Ron Holliday, says mounting economic pressures and a high electricity bill led to the decision to terminate a five-year lease with the Pettinaro Company.  Holliday says he’s making an effort to find jobs for the club’s 70 employees.

Toll Brothers owns part of the former Hercules Country Club, and is planning a development of more than 260 luxury homes.

The site off Route 48 is one of Delaware’s oldest country clubs, and includes an 18-hole golf course.
