Delaware lawmakers look to expandad crime-prevention property program

A push by Del. Attorney General Beau Biden and some state legislators would expand the 2007 Nuisance Abatement Program.

Senate Bill 65 would add gun crimes and gang activity to the program that targets drug offenses to rehabilitate abandonded and negleted properties.

WHYY’s Mark Fowser talked to lawmakers who also want to grant permission to civic associations, neighborhood planning councils and other community groups to take legal action against these property owners.

The existing program has helped rehab 140 properties, and places 400 others on a watch list.
