Delaware culinary students bake thousands of cookies for cops

An all-night bake-a-thon begins tonight as culinary students are making thousands of cookies to say “thank you” to the area’s police officers.

This is the fourth year of the all-night baking event at Delcastle Technical High School, which shows appreciation to police officers for their staffing of DUI patrols and checkpoints.  About 10,000 cookies will be baked and delivered to police officers.  The event this year is dedicated to the late New Castle County Police Lieutenant Joseph Szczerba, who was killed in the line of duty in September.  Children from surrounding elementary schools will decorate cookie boxes along with students from other career areas at Delcastle. Dana Herbert, winner of TLC’s “Next Cake Boss”, will be on on-hand to join in the activities.  Cookies will be delivered to each police agency in New Castle County as well as some in Kent and Sussex counties starting Thursday.
