Delaware beach town bans smoking

Beginning March 1, smoking at the beach and town parks in Delaware’s Fenwick Island is prohibited.

The seaside town in Sussex County received a $10,000 grant from the American Lung Association to implement marketing materials for the new ban, such as signs and brochures.

Signs will be posted near the entrances of the areas where smoking is banned.

The ordinance includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes or anything else that contains tobacco.

First-time offenders will receive a written warning. Repeat offenders face fines and penalties. The town is considering hiring a bike officer to enforce the ban.
