Police find alleged Germantown-daycare burglar hiding in closet

Wanted by police for allegedly breaking into a Germantown daycare center and stealing a desktop computer on April 7, Khari Jones’ options were limited when police showed up at his house with a warrant Monday night.

Faced with arrest on the 600 block of W. Duval St., the 22-year-old hid in a third-floor closet in the hope of avoiding the detectives and plainclothes officers who came knocking around 9 p.m.

But they sought, found and took Jones into custody.

Jones, whose alleged break-in was caught by surveillance cameras and widely released by police last week, was charged with burglary and related offenses stemming the incident at the Kids Are Fit Day Care Center on the 6100 block of Germantown Ave.

After forcing the front door open, he allegedly took an Acer all-in-one touchscreen desktop computer and placed it in a tan shoulder bag before running south on Germantown Avenue.

In 2010, Jones received six months of probation after being found guilty on charges of theft and criminal conspiracy, according to court records.
