Dalai Lama to visit NJ, headline peace summit

The Dalai Lama is coming to New Jersey’s largest city to kick off a three-day peace education summit.

Event organizers from the New York-based Tibet House U.S. say the exiled Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader was eager to visit an American city like Newark as part of his U.S. tour.

He’ll be the keynote speaker at the Newark Peace Education Summit, which runs Friday through Sunday in downtown Newark. The summit will feature panel discussions by international peace activists and local community leaders.

The 75-year-old Dalai Lama is set to turn over his political seat to a newly elected prime minister of Tibet’s government-in-exile by the end of May.
