DA: Pa. officer killed responding to hit-and-run
Authorities say a police officer was shot and killed while responding to a hit-and-run in a Philadelphia suburb.
The suspect was later killed.
The shooting happened in Plymouth Township around 6 p.m. yesterday. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman says Plymouth Township canine officer Brad Fox, who would have turned 35 on Friday, was shot in the head.
Authorities would not say how the suspect was killed.
SEPTA says all trains on the Manayunk/Norristown line will remain suspended until 8 a.m. this morning while police investigate.
Fox’s dog was also shot, but is going to recover.
Fox was a seven-year department veteran and a marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq. Chief Joseph Lawrence says Fox was married with a young child and a second on the way. He called Fox “a hero.”
