Cumberland County prisoners stage short-lived hunger strike

If you blinked, you would have missed it. A group of inmates in Cumberland County’s Bayside State Prison held a brief hunger strike last night, that began and ended with little fanfare.

The News of Cumberland County reports some prisoners at the Maurice River Township facility refused to eat their evening meal last night. A full unit of 91 inmates participated, sparking individual interviews to determine the cause of the strike.

A prison spokesman said he couldn’t provide information on how the strike began, but the inmates have eaten breakfast and lunch today. There was no apparent incident or reported violence that started or ended the strike.

Maybe they just don’t like the Sunday night meal?
