Rescuers saved a horse that fell into a marshy area within the Wharton State Forest in Washington Township late Wednesday morning.

The horse slipped into a marsh along the Batona Trail and got stuck as a woman was riding the animal across a wooden plank, WPVI reported

It took crews more than an hour to pull the horse to safety, during which an EMS worker was kicked in the face and later taken to an area hospital, the report said.

The first responder’s condition was not immediately known.

The horse was evaluated by a veterinarian and is in good health, according to JSHN contributor Roman Isaryk.
