Corbett to name Pedro Ramos as Philadelphia School Reform Commission chair

Pa. Gov. Tom Corbett says he’ll name Pedro Ramos as chairman of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission once the state Senate confirms Ramos’ nomination.

Corbett first nominated Ramos back in June to the panel made of up city, state and district appointees.

“When I heard from the governor’s office about whether I’d have an interest in coming back, frankly, I thought really hard about it,” Ramos told NewsWorks over the summer. The attorney formerly served on the Board of Education, went to Philadelphia public schools and sent his children to them.

Until Ramos’ nomination is approved, Wendell Pritchett will serve as the interim SRC chair. Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter appointed the Rutgers chancellor to the SRC last month after Chairman Robert Archie and member John Irizarry resigned.
