Comcast opens Philly, N.J. wifi hotspots during Sandy recovery

Comcast is opening up its Xfinity WiFi hotspots in Greater Philadelphia and New Jersey to anyone who needs them, the corporation announced Tuesday.

Hotspots that normally only be available to Xfinity customers will now be of use to anyone in the area.As power outages from Hurriane Sandy persistent, many find themselves with dying batteries and fewer means to communicate.

To access one of the hotspots, search for “xfinitywifi.” Choose the “Not a Comcast subscriber?” link at the bottom of the sign-in page and select the “Complimentary Trial Session” option from the drop-down list.

Users can renew their sessions every two hours through Wednesday, Nov. 7, but should be mindful that some networks have been affected by the storm.
