Periods of heavy rain will sweep through the region this afternoon ahead of a cold front, forecasters say.

Some thunderstorms will also develop and generate gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

“Moderate to heavy rainfall today may result in localized flooding of small streams, roadways and areas of poor drainage,” a National Weather Service outlook states.

At the Jersey Shore, temperatures will rise to near 60 degrees.

Precipitation will taper off early this evening, when clouds diminish and a westerly breeze develops, leading to a quiet and dry pattern through the remainder of the workweek.

Tomorrow will feature a mixture of sun and clouds with highs in the middle 40s. Temperatures drop slightly for Thursday and Friday but both days will be dry.
