Coffee shop aims to address poverty in North Central Philadelphia

Often seen as a sign of gentrification and neighborhood evolvement, coffee shops are taking on a new role by fighting poverty. People for People will open a coffee shop on North Broad Street this fall as part of a welfare-to-work program.
The cafe on North Broad Street near Fairmount Avenue will serve the usual coffee and baked goods served by those most in need of jobs, Flying Kite reports. Aside from a few full-time jobs, PFP Cafe will also have a number of rotating part-time positions in which people can practice their work skills and eventually transfer into full-time hospitality, service or retail careers.
