Coast Guard rescues elderly man in watercraft

The Coast Guard came to the aid of an elderly man who suffered an undisclosed medical emergency while using a personal watercraft in waters off southern New Jersey.

The Press of Atlantic City says the request for aid came in around 10:40 a.m. Saturday. At the time, the man was in a 20-foot-long personal watercraft about five miles off shore.

Coast Guard crews, who had been practicing water rescues earlier Saturday in areas off the Great Egg Harbor Inlet, already had the equipment in place to lift the man out of his watercraft.

He was flown to a hospital, but further details on his condition were not disclosed.
