Coast Guard recalls rescue of sinking boat off southern New Jersey

Four people were rescued Thursday night when their 38-foot sailboat began to sink in waters off southern New Jersey.

DelawareOnline.com reports a crew member aboard the “Odes of Joy” notified the Coast Guard around 7:20 p.m. Thursday night tht the sailboat was taking on water.

The Coast Guard says the boat was sailing in 3-5 foot waves and apparently hit a submerged jetty off Barnegat Light, before eventually breaking up on the rocks.

According to the report, the Coast Guard boat happened to be patrolling the area and managed to reach the sinking boat in minutes.
