City fountains are for wishing, not swimming

Even with three coins, wishing to swim in one of the city’s many enticing fountains on this sweltering day won’t change the fact that it’s against the rules.

A spokesperson from the city’s Parks and Rec department told NBC10 that due to safety concerns, swimming in the city’s fountains is not permitted. People who are caught swimming could face fines.

There are however, other places that families are encouraged to go, like one of the city’s many pools, or the Sister Cities Park, across the street from Logan Circle where WHYY’s Elizabeth Fiedler snapped this shot of locals cooling during in today’s summer heat.
