City Council discuss whether to extend Philly bars’ hours
Should bars be open ’til 3 a.m. instead of 2?
It’s one of the first items on the agenda for Philadelphia City Council today as the members begin their new session. Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown’s proposal coincides with a similar ordinance from the state to keep bars open longer.
What difference would another hour make? Well, the money from the per-drink tax would go to the struggling School District of Philadelphia.
CBS3 reports the extra drinks could amount to as much as $5 million a year for the district.
WHYY/NewsWorks’ Tom MacDonald will be in council chambers getting the details.
