Christie says Lewis may be “too sensitive” to run for Senate.

N.J. Gov. Chris Christie has vowed to “campaign hard” against the Olympian if Lewis proceeds with his run for New Jersey’s 8th District Senate seat.

Christie said in a radio interview this morning he never tried to discourage Lewis from running, but that Lewis may be “too sensitive” to do so.

Lewis has said Christie threatened to cut an atheltic program the medalist wants to start if Lewis runs against incumbent Republican Sen. Daan Marie Addiego.

The Associated Press reports Christie said he told Lewis that he couldn’t move forward on the program if the Democrat ran against Christie’s longtime friend.

Lewis is awaiting word from the U.S. District Court on whether the residency requirements that prevent him from being a candidate are unconstitutional.
