Christie declares state of emergency in New Jersey

    Prepping for a “serious, significant event,” N.J. Gov. Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency in the Garden State, which is already awaiting word from FEMA about federal assistance for the last heavy storm.

    The announcement comes as Hurricane Irene moves up the coast, threatening parts of New Jersey already recovering from millions in flood damage.
