Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia prepares for nine-acre expansion

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is preparing for a massive change — one million square feet of it.

CHOP plans to construct a one million sq-ft project along South Street south of Schuylkill Avenue at the former site of Springfield Beverage, which the hospital acquired last year.

The hospital has begun asking builders to submit proposals for the nine-acre site, which could house offices and labs. The Inquirer reports a hotel for patients’ families could be part of the plan, but development is in the early stages, and neighorhood outreach has not begun.
