Chestnut Hill branch of Sovereign bank robbed

Philadelphia police are seeking a man who robbed the Sovereign Bank at 8623 Germantown Avenue today around 11:15 a.m. The thief made off with $4,000 in cash from the bank’s Chestnut Hill branch.

Officer Anthony Buchanico described the perpetrator as a male dressed in full Muslim garb, wearing a long maroon gown and covered face. Police offered more information later in the day saying the suspect is a black male about 5′ 7″.

The robber presented a demand note and fled in a red minivan after the theft. No one at the bank was injured during the heist. The minivan was last seen heading south on Ardleigh Street. Both the police and FBI are investigating.

An attempted robbery of this Sovereign Bank branch occurred on March 6, 2012 and it was robbed at gunpoint on May 31, 2011.
