Chemical spill

A chemical spill in Abington has residents worried about a gas leak, but authorities day there is no danger.

Fire Marshal Kenneth Clark said a gallon of what is believed to be mercaptan — a substance added to natural gas to give it an odor — spilled during snow removal today, and strong winds have carried the odor throughout the township, the Associated Press reports.

Clark is awaiting confirmation that the mercaptan is the source of the smell.
