Germantown flower-store fire remains under investigation

Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of a fire that gutted an East Chelten Avenue flower store early Tuesday morning.

Executive Chief Richard Davidson said Wednesday afternoon that the blaze reported at 1:27 a.m. Tuesday at Flowers By Jannette, 921-23 E. Chelten Ave. in Germantown, “remained under investigation by the department’s Fire Marshal’s Office.”

As firefighters worked the scene more than eight hours after a fire that was declared under control within 30 minutes, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives was also represented at the scene.

No injuries were reported, but two men who lived in a building behind the store, connected by an elevated walkway, have received help from the American Red Cross to find shelter.
