Charter school facing scrutiny from Del. education officials

A charter school serving at-risk students in Wilmington is facing scrutiny from Delaware education officials after falling out of compliance with state rules.

The News Journal of Wilmington says the state sent a corrective action plan last month to the New Moyer Academy charter school and could place the school on formal review, leading to a possible closure.

The state says it’s got several concerns about the school.

Education officials say too many students are skipping school and that the school is offering an incoherent curriculum and not accurately reporting problems with discipline.

Moyer leaders say they’re working to return to state compliance, and that the problems can be worked out.

State education officials expect to continue scrutinizing the school during the first few months of the school year.
