Bridge to Re-open

There’s good news for commuters who used to take the old South Street bridge between West Philadelphia and Center City: the new South Street bridge re-opens this weekend.

Mayor Michael Nutter told WHYY’s Elizabeth Fiedler he doesn’t plan to take the South Street bridge to work on a regular basis, but: “I’m certainly gonna be out there on Saturday and look, you know I move around the city like everyone else and if there’s an opportunity – if I’m over on that side of town – to take the bridge versus going some other way, I know I’m gonna take the bridge.” The two year construction project, that rebuilt a old dangerous, out-dated span, is on time and on budget.
