Boy critically injured trying to jump train in Northeast Philly

A 13-year-old boy was critically injured in an accident that severed his leg after he tried to jump on a train in Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Police said the accident happened shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday in Northeast Philadelphia.

A police spokeswoman said the boy was trying to jump on a CSX train operating on Conrail tracks, but he missed and his right leg was severed.

He was transported to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in critical condition.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority’s Trenton line was shut down in both directions during the investigation. Service resumed shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
