Borders will close the rest of its stores

Most Philadelphia-area Borders stores were spared when the book retailer filed for Chapter 11 early this year. The Center City location got caught up in the second round of closings, and now the rest will shutter, too.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports Borders will liquidate and close its remaining 399 stores around the country. That includes the 15 left in our region.

Assets will be sold to liquidators Hilco Merchant Resources and  Gordon Bros. Group. No bidder came forward before the Sunday deadline.
