Boiler failure reported at Delaware City refinery

Smoke and other pollutants have been released as a result of a boiler failure at PBF Energy’s Delaware City Refinery.
The state Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control reported the boiler failure on Saturday.
The emissions listed by the agency include sulfur dioxide, hydrogen cyanide, ammonia compounds and carbon monoxide and are those that typically escape during boiler breakdowns.
A PBF spokeswoman said in a statement to the News Journal of Wilmington that an air pollution control device was offline. Spokeswoman Lisa Lindsey said there were no impacts to the community and that the company was working to bring it back online and had notified “all appropriate agencies.”
