Murder charge connected with Delaware abduction

Wilmington Police believe they’ve found the body of a woman who was abducted from a city street around 9:30 Monday morning.  They’ve charged her accused kidnapper with murder.

Marsha Lee was reported missing around 10 a.m. Monday, after her husband returned from an appointment only to find the family dog that Lee had taken for a walk running loose.  Police connected the missing woman to a report of an abduction at the intersection of Lowell Road and Matson Run Parkway.  A witness told police he saw the driver of a red Hummer SUV shove someone into the car.  Police identified articles of clothing left at the scene of the abduction as belonging to Lee.

A body that’s been tentatively identified as Lee was found Monday afternoon in a DelDOT lot off Rockwood Road during a ground and air search.  A cause of death and positive identification are pending an autopsy.

Last night, police pulled over a vehicle matching the witness description and detained the driver, Dwight Smith.  Following a series of interviews and a search of Smith’s residence, police charged him with murder and kidnapping.  He’s being held without bail at Wilmington’s Young Prison.
