Bicyclist airlifted to hospital after collision with vehicle in Harvey Cedars

    A bicyclist sustained possible head trauma after colliding with a vehicle today in Harvey Cedars.

    A preliminary investigation into the incident, which occurred at West Burlington Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard, revealed that Jennifer Budzyn, 42, of Delran was making a turn onto Long Beach Boulevard south in a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder when she made contact the bicyclist, according to Harvey Cedars Police Department Det. Robert Burnaford.

    The injured woman, Beth Deturo, 41, of Charlotte, North Carolina, sustained possible head trauma and was airlifted to the trauma unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, Burnaford said in a release. 

    Budzyn, who had difficulty breathing, was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center in Stafford, he added.

    Police reduced traffic on Long Beach Boulevard to one lane in both directions during the investigation.

    The Harvey Cedars Police Department continues to investigate with assistance from the Long Beach Township Police Department, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

    The Barnegat Light First Aid Squad also responded.
