Bevilacqua won’t have to testify in court
Retired Philadelphia Cardinal Anthony Bevilacqua won’t testify at the abuse trial of Msgr. William Lynn; Frs. Charles Engelhardt, Tom Brennan and Edward Avery; and former teacher Bernard Shero.
The Associated Press reports Bevilacqua will likely give a videotaped deposition later this month for the case that charges the priests and teacher with child sex abuse and the monsignor with helping to cover it up.
Church lawyers say the cardinal has cancer and dementia, and prosecutors want to preserve Bevilacqua’s in case he can’t attend the trial that starts in March.
