On Monday, locals and visitors gathered in Bethany Beach to say “goodbye” to summer.

A large crowd was on hand at the resort town’s 29th annual “Jazz Funeral.” Mourners, along with costumed angels and nuns, accompanied a “Casket of Summer’s Past” as it was carried along the boardwalk on Labor Day.

A Dixieland band offered some musical solace for those overtaken with grief for the departed vacation season.
