Bastille Day celebration brings Tastykakes to Fairmount
Bastille Day was Thursday, but we can all probably overlook that small detail since Saturday’s Bastille Day Festival will bring 2,000 Tastykakes to Eastern State Penitentiary. The 17th annual event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a street festival outside the historic prison. Tour ESP, have a caricature made and enjoy French-inspired food.Though the festival lasts through 6 p.m., the main event — the Storming of Bastille — is set for 5:30.
Mock French revolutionaries will storm ESP to drag Marie Antoinette (played by a local restaurant owner) to the guillotine as 2,000 Butterscotch Krimpets shoot down from the penitentiary’s towers.Uwishunu has all the details on the festival, and Arts & Culture reporter tells us the new Tasty Baking Co. owner is supplying all the Krimpets for free.
