Barnes surpasses fundraising goal for Philadelphia building

Despite its controversial move from Merion to the Ben Franklin Parkway, the Barnes Foundation has announced it has surpassed its $200 million fundraising goal.

That’s $150 million for the construction of the new museum on the Parkway and $50 to the foundation’s endowment. Few details have been released about the funding sources, but the Foundation says all of the most recent $40 million comes from private donors, as the Inquirer reports.

Litigation will resume in August as opponents of the Foundation’s move head back to court. The Merion building is still slated to close this weekend.
