Bank bandit

Authorities are on the lookout for a man they say may be responsible for at least four robberies at Philadelphia-area banks since Nov. 12. The latest heist took place Thursday at the VIST Financial branch located at 8004 Verree Rd. Other robberies were at a Sovereign Bank in Cheltenham and two Bank of America branches in Philadelphia.

In each robbery, the culprit presented the teller with a threatening note and ran off after receiving the cash.

Police describe the man as being in his 20s or 30s, African-American, 5’6 to 5’8 with a medium build and clean-shaven face. He has worn hats and heavy coats during the thefts. Police consider him armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI at 215-418-4000, the Philadelphia Police Department, or the Cheltenham Police Department at 215-885-1600. There may be a reward for information leading to his capture, and tipsters can remain anonymous.
