Baked to perfection

Every year, folks line up at dawn at 15th and Ritner in South Philadelphia, holding turkeys in their hands.

    What’s going on?

They are hoping to be among the lucky hundred or so cooks who pay $15 to get their turkeys baked to a perfect brown in the brick oven at Cacia’s Bakery,  (Ovens and kitchens in South Philly tend to be too small to handle smoothly all the elements of  true Italian feast, so Cacia’s started lending a hand years ago.)

WHYY/Newsworks’ Tom MacDonald loves to go to South Philly every year to take in the scene – and the smells.
