Police: Newborn found in box on Philly sidewalk OK

Officials are trying to find out who gave birth to a newborn girl who was found inside a cardboard box on a north Philadelphia sidewalk.

Police say the child found yesterday morning was in good condition after she was rushed to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

Lt. Anthony McFadden of the special victims unit said it was “very lucky” she was found so quickly by two men doing cleanup on the Strawberry Mansion block.

Police say she was born just hours earlier and her umbilical cord was still attached.
