A new corporate headquarters in Philadelphia is bringing more prestige and 100 more jobs to the city.

Axalta Coating Systems company officials did not want to stray too far from their roots in Delaware selecting a new headquarters, said Mike Crickenberger, a corporate vice president. The company chose a spot in Commerce Square at 20th and Market streets.

“It’s a beautiful location,” Crickenberger said. “We used to be a part of DuPont. A little separation and the city, state, the townships have been very inviting to get us to come into the city and work.”

Mayor Michael Nutter is eager to welcome the billion-dollar company that caters to carmakers and appliance manufacturers supplying paints and powder coatings.

“By establishing their global headquarters in Philadelphia, Axalta is acknowledging that Philadelphia is one of the great international cities of the world,” Nutter said.

A second new Axalta facility in Concord Township, Delaware County, will bring 230 jobs to that area.
