Authorities seek Lakewood murder suspect
Authorities are seeking a Lakewood man on murder and weapons charges after a warrant was issued today, Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato and Lakewood Police Chief Robert Lawson announced.
Darneil Reeves, 32, with a last known address of 207 Center Street in Lakewood, is being sought in connection with the death of Hassan Parker, 32, of South Toms River, according to a release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the release, Reeves has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a knife for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a knife. Ocean County Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels set bail at one million dollars with no ten percent option.
Authorities say that Reeves and Parker were sitting in a vehicle in the Martin Luther King, Jr. apartment complex parking lot in Lakewood shortly before midnight on June 22 when Reeves stabbed the other man.
A subsequent investigation revealed that Reeves stabbed Parker just minutes before the deceased man’s vehicle crashed into a utility pole less than a mile from the Martin Luther King, Jr. apartment complex, according to the release.
Authorities say that Parker was attempting to drive himself to a hospital when he crashed. He was pronounced dead during the early morning hours of June 23.
A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Medical Examiner revealed that Parker died as a result of the stab wound.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (732) 929-2027 or the Lakewood Police Department at (732) 363-0200. Authorities say to not approach Reeves if spotted.
