Aunt plans to donate kidney to infant nephew

Meredith Dankanis, 35, plans to donate one of her kidneys to save the life of her 15-month-old nephew.

The Havertown infant, Matthew Donahue was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure six-weeks after his birth and was told he would need a kidney transplant, reports Danielle Lynch of the Main Line Times.

The Donahue family was also told that in order to be healthy enough to accept a donated adult-size kidney into his tiny body, Matthew had to wait one year and receive dialysis every day until he was strong enough for a new kidney.

Dankanis and little Matthew are both scheduled to have surgery on February 28. A benefit will be held for Matthew on April 8.
