Atlantic City mayor prohibits police from casino parking garage patrols

An executive order issued yesterday by Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford prohibits city police from patrolling casino parking garages.

Police began those patrols just last week after a second fatal carjacking in a casino parking garage had people worried.

The Press of Atlantic City reports Langford issued a statement late yesterday saying officers need to stay visible and maintain their responsibility to the city’s residents. But the order last week for cops to patrol the casino garages put the officers directly in state-run tourism district territory. Langford has been vocal about the district, which he said marginalizes Atlantic City residents.
