Art collection to award money, gallery placement to emerging artists

As of yesterday, the public can browse submissions for the West Collection of Contemporary Art, and by vote, can help an artist win $25,000 and placement in the collection.

West Collects is an international open call for contemporary artists to submit their work to the gallery, curated by NYC’s Mixed Greens Gallery owner Paige West. Submissions can be viewed on the West Collects iPhone app, where the public can vote.

The app and contest are part of the collection’s commitment to purchased $300,000 worth of work from artists. NewsWorks Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins tells us $100,000 of that is earmarked for Philadelphia-area artists.
